About the Project

Mapping Haiti: Archives and Histories of Cap-Haïtien is a digital humanities initiative that reunites archival materials documenting the history of Cap-Haïtien across institutions, languages, and national borders. By combining archival research, historical GIS, and digital storytelling, the project invites scholars, students, and the public to explore the city's role in Haitian, Caribbean, and Atlantic history.

Rather than presenting a single narrative, the archive provides the tools to investigate how people, landscapes, and built environments have continually shaped Cap-Haïtien over more than five centuries.
